REVIEW OF
I SHALL NOT WANT
BY DEBBIE VIGUIE
First, I want to thank Abingdon Press for providing the ARC for my review. This is the second volume in the Psalm 23 Mysteries Series I’ve read, the first being The Lord is My Shepherd. I have to say that I can’t wait for the next installment.
In I Shall Not Want, church secretary, Cindy Preston, helps Joseph Tyler, a church member, with a new charity he has organized that provides homeless people with rescue dogs to love and care for. But one by one, the recipients are murdered, and their dogs stolen. Could a competitor of Joseph’s be the killer?
Somehow, Cindy and Jeremiah, the rabbi at the temple next door, are once again thrown together to help solve the crimes.
I love the concept of the secretary of a Christian church and a rabbi inadvertently being swept into the thick of a murder investigation. Another thing that keeps me intrigued is that Jeremiah has some sort of covert background, and can seem to do things the average rabbi can’t. But like the cherry on an ice cream sundae, the subtle hint that these two have developed a sort of romantic attachment tops it all off.
Debbie Viguie does a fabulous job. Her writing is fresh and airy; the characters are interesting, and she makes us care about them. All of them. The twists keep readers on their toes. I highly recommend this book, and if you’re able, read the first in the series, too.
