REVIEW OF
THE PRAYERS OF AGNES SPARROW
BY JOYCE MAGNIN
Agnes Sparrow is a special lady. No longer able or willing to leave her home, she commits herself to a life of prayer—prayer that has resulted in numerous miracles, both large and small.
The rural residents of the quirky Pennsylvania town of Bright’s Pond are in awe of Agnes. They plan to erect a sign in her honor on the interstate. Agnes wants no part of it, and sends her sister, Griselda, to fight city hall. Their petitions are shot down, and the plans for the sign press forward.
But when a stranger comes to town, asking Agnes for his miracle, this small town is turned on its head, and Agnes’s feet of clay are exposed, forcing the town to its knees.
I loved this book! Joyce Magnin’s writing style is so much fun, and her quirky characters are endearing. I did not want to leave Bright's Pond when I came to the end. The story itself contained lots of little twists and turns, and all of the characters were lovable, even down to the town curmudgeon.
Trust me, this is a book you do not want to miss, especially if you like small-town, down home people populating the stories you read.
