REVIEW OF
IT’S NOT ABOUT ME
BY MICHELLE SUTTON
First, I have to say that I never ready anything by Michelle Sutton I haven’t loved. Sure, It’s Not About Me is her debut novel, but I’ve read some of her works in progress, and have never been disappointed.
It’s Not About Me is about Annie Meyers, who has everything going for her: beauty, loving parents, a comfortable life and a hot boyfriend. One night a terrible occurrence changes everything, setting Annie on a spiritual journey that leads her to the conclusion that she’s not the Christian she thought she was. To complicate matters, two brothers are at war over her. Not wanting to hurt either of them, Annie’s not sure which she’ll choose, if she chooses at all.
This is a wonderful book for teens and young women to read. Besides the main issues of love for the Lord, forgiveness and abstinence, the story touches on loving the unlovely, living out one’s faith, alcoholism, and healing spiritually, emotionally and physically.
The author doesn’t pussyfoot around, here, either. These characters think and act like young people really do, which is refreshing. Some of the scenes are a little steamy, but there are lessons to be learned from them. I highly recommend this book.
