BATH SALTS: WHAT ARE THEY?
BY DEBORAH M. PICCURELLI
I’ve been hearing a lot, lately, about “bath salts,” but when I hear or read the word “drugs” linked with the phrase, I wonder how that could be.
I had always thought that bath salts were a crystal-like substance you poured from a pouch or package into hot bath water. I could never imagine how people could get high from them? Do they sit there and breathe deeply of the scent, I wondered? I looked up bath salts on the internet. An article at Everythingaddictions.com states that, according to the poison control center, most of the time they are snorted, but they know of at least once where it was injected into an individual’s veins.
Though many of the chemicals contained in bath salts have been banned, these designer drugs can be bought over the counter at gas stations and other places. Imagine how dangerously available they are to our children.
If you are concerned about your child, or the child of someone you know, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 for more information.
