DISCRIMINATION FOR PROFIT

In today’s newspaper, I read a small article in the business section about Hallmark offering same sex wedding cards. Now, I ask you, do we really need those? You can find any number of cards that don’t refer to each party’s gender already out there and would be suitable for the occasion. The article states that inside one of these new cards it says, “Two hearts. One promise.” Uh, wouldn’t that apply to any couple? I hate to say this, but Hallmark is using the new laws legalizing gay marriage, or recognizing same sex civil unions, to fill their coffers.
Another thing that bothers me is, creating special greeting cards for specific groups promotes labeling and, possibly, discrimination. Haven’t gays been fighting for equality and inclusion for some time, now? Why would they want to stand out from the crowd, so to speak, with special items made just for them? If there is a specific need for something, such as helpful devices for the handicapped (hate those labels) to aid with everyday functioning, then categorizing can’t be helped.
A lot of people will probably have differing opinions, and maybe I’ll hear from a few, but that’s okay. The whole world will never agree on any one issue, I’m afraid, but that’s one of the things that make it such a great place. Hey, I can disagree with the homosexual lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get along with them. It’s God’s job to judge, not mine.
I invite comments, so feel free to email me. Whether you agree with me, or not.
