This is a list of some of my favorite DVDs to watch around Valentine’s Day. You know, the ones that give you a warm feeling that makes you hug yourself throughout the movie? You may have already seen some of them, as they are mostly older movies. “Older” can mean years, or it can mean months. So here they are, in no particular order of favoritism:
A Walk To Remember – C’mon, who can resist any movie based on a Nicholas Sparks book?
The Cutting Edge – This is usually shown on TV around Christmastime, but it’s really just a winter movie about love, ice skating, and competing to get to the Olympics. There might be an off-color remark or two, if I remember correctly.
Straight From the Heart – This is a beautiful Hallmark Channel movie, so you can’t go wrong.
Why Did I Get Married? – A Tyler Perry movie with him in a supporting role, sans the Madea costume. Oh, and Janet Jackson.
Daddy’s Little Girls – Another Tyler Perry movie, sans Tyler Perry. It makes me cry every time.
Just Like Heaven – If you like Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo together, then it really is just like Heaven. Cute movie.
Enchanted – A Patrick Dempsey fairy tale.
Made of Honor – Patrick Dempsey again. ‘Nuff said.
Pride and Prejudice – The six-hour long mini-series with Colin Firth. I sigh all the way through.
Sense and Sensibility – With Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant. I’m not quite sure they had chemistry, but the movie is breathtaking, all the same.
Definitely, Maybe – Ryan Reynolds with Abigail Breslin as his daughter. Need I say more?
Did you notice a few trends beginning? Jane Austen, Tyler Perry and McDreamy. A winning combination. If you haven’t seen these movies, or even if you have, why not grab your honey and vegetate in front of the TV for a while (if you can get him to sit through the mushy stuff), and relive the days of your love in early bloom. Even if it was just yesterday.
