AN INTERVIEW WITH MARYANN DIORIO
MaryAnn Diorio has written a short work of fiction entitled A CHRISTMAS HOMECOMING that will be released by Harbourlight Books of the Pelican Book Group in early December 2012. Today we’ll chat with MaryAnn about her book.
What is the working title of your book?
A Christmas Homecoming
Where did the idea for your book come from?
As a life coach, I deal with many clients who struggle with unforgiveness. During my own growing up years, I too struggled with unforgiveness toward people who had hurt me deeply. When I became a Christian, I learned about Christ's command to forgive. I also learned that unforgiveness enslaves while forgiveness sets free. Since unforgiveness is such a major problem, I wanted to write a story that focused on the theme of forgiveness.
What genre does your book fall under?
Women's Fiction
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? When Sonia Pettit’s teenage daughter suddenly disappears for seven long years, Sonia faces losing her mind, her husband, and her son as she struggles to forgive her wayward daughter and trust God for her return.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
My book was represented by my agent Terry Burns of the Hartline Literary Agency.
Harbourlight Books (a division of Pelican Book Group) will release
A CHRISTMAS HOMECOMING in early December 2012.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
About one month.
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
When I learned that Harbourlight Books was looking for Christmas stories, I prayed and asked Holy Spirit to give me an idea for a story. He brought to my mind the problem of unforgiveness that is so prevalent, and He gave me an idea for a story that deals with this problem and that shows God's answer to it.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
The depth and intensity of the mother-daughter relationship. The powerful innocence of children in teaching us deep lessons about life.
